Carrying a history of over 300 years, the market was the site of a slave market during the Colonial Period. The centre of the island’s colonial slave trade, and where executions were carried out. It is now an arts and crafts market.
Babylon; the Roseau Old Market, it signified a place for public punishment and execution, for the slaves.

The Old Market of Roseau, also known as Old Market Plaza and Dawbiney Market Square, is a market located in Roseau, the capital of the Caribbean island of Dominica. The market was the setting for important political meetings.
From here walk to the Neg Maroon Monument, which remembers the slaves who escaped captivity, by running to the hills.
